AIWF / IBA Women Business Lawyers Initiative Conference in Amman, Jordan 7 September 2015

AIWF was proud to partner with the International Bar Association and the Arab Women’s Legal Network to host the Conference Jordanian Women in Legal Professions: Challenges and Opportunities on Monday 7 September, the primary aim of which was to bring together lawyers from across the Middle East to discuss standards and trends in the practice of law and strategies for developing an international legal practice.

Aimed chiefly at lawyers in commercial law practice, the event attracted the participation of over 100 speakers and delegates primarily from Middle East countries. Delegates were addressed by a number of distinguished keynote speakers, including HE Reem Abu Hassan, Minister of Social Development of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a lawyer and human rights activist who has focused on family protection and women’s empowerment throughout her career; Mrs Haifa Fahoum Al Kaylani, Founder and Chairman of the Arab International Women’s Forum; HE Sharif Zu’bi, former Minister of Industry and Trade and former Minister of Justice and a key figure both in law and in politics who was instrumental in the initiation of important legal reforms while in office; HE Mervet Tallawy, Director General of the Arab Women Organization (AWO), an Egyptian diplomat and politician with a long career advocating for women’s rights and The Hon Ihsan Barakat, Founding President of the Arab Women’s Legal Network and Judge.
