AIWF congratulates Mona Al Moayyad, valued AIWF Board Member, on her appointment to the Bahrain Shura Council 13 October 2019

The Board of the Arab International Women’s Forum extends its warmest congratulations to Mona Al Moayyed, valued AIWF Board Member and Managing Director of YK Almoayyed & Sons, on her landmark appointment to the Shura Council, the second chamber in the legislative house, by HRH King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa. Ms Al Moayyed took her seat in December 2018 and is leading key social and economic initiatives within the Kingdom, with women now representing 18.75% of the 2018-2022 parliament, up from 15% in 2014-2018.

Mona Almoayyed hails from one of Bahrain’s most established entrepreneurial families. She was the first woman to be elected to the Board of a publicly traded company in Bahrain and also the first woman to be elected to the Board of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2001. She is a Member of the Board of the Child Care Home which provides facilities for the care of orphaned children, and she is a Member of the International Peace Institute Middle East which is an independent, international, non-profit thinktank dedicated to managing risk and building resilience to promote peace, security and sustainable development. Throughout her journey, Mona Almoayyed has won various prestigious awards and recognitions, most recently with the recent ranking in 2018 by Arabic Forbes as 8th of the 100 Most Influential Arab Women in the Middle East.

AIWF is most proud to have Mrs Al Moayyed on the Board of AIWF and values her contributions and expertise generously given to the direction and initiatives of AIWF as led and endorsed by the Board. AIWF looks forward to welcoming Mrs Al Moayyed as a valued Distinguished Guest Speaker for the upcoming Women as Engines of Economic Growth Conference in Cairo in September and wishes her every success in her role on the Shura Council which will undoubtedly inspire many young Arab women aspiring to positions of leadership in business and public service.
