The Board of the Arab International Women’s Forum is delighted to announce that effective 01 January 2024, Dr Oualae Alami has been appointed Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of the Arab International Women’s Forum. Dr Oualae Alami is Vice President, Global Influenza Lead, at Pfizer.
On her appointment, HE Mona Al Moayyed, Chair of the AIWF Executive Committee, said: ‘We are proud to have had the privilege of Dr Oualae Alami’s expertise on the Board of AIWF for nearly a decade and we are thrilled to have her now as Vice Chair of AIWF’s Executive Committee at an exciting time in AIWF’s 23-year history, as AIWF restates its commitment to climate, sustainability and STEM and creating an equitable future for Arab women at the nexus of these critical areas of focus. Oualae has always been deeply committed to diversity and inclusion and to championing opportunities for young women leaders in the health sciences. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in AIWF’s growth and in our joint mission with our partners at Pfizer to inspire and empower the next generation of women in STEM.”

Oualae has been a Board Member of AIWF, the non-profit development organisation founded in 2001 by Haifa Al Kaylani OBE, since 2016. She has over 20 years of experience in health care. She is currently the Vice President and Global Influenza and future combination vaccines Lead at Pfizer. Her role involves working with various global stakeholders internally and externally to ensure, that when approved, these vaccines can contribute to reducing the overall burden of respiratory diseases, providing public health and economic benefits to the society.
Prior to that, she has led various organizations, the latest being the Hospital and Covid Antiviral Business across Western Europe where her work involved partnering with scientific societies, industry and governments to leverage effective policy making, strategic leadership to advance on some of the world’s most pressing health issues in the field of infectious disease especially in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and anti-microbial resistance.
Oualae is a passionate advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion with a focus on advancing women in leadership in general and more recently on Women from minority groups. She is involved in various programs that focus on developing, mentoring, and coaching women across industries. She has been leading the Global Women Resource Group since 2023, supporting Pfizer efforts in creating the most equitable workplace for women.
Oualae speaks frequently in regional and international forums about leadership and women empowerment. She was the former Africa and Middle East Chair of Pfizer’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council leading Pfizer’s efforts to champion key initiatives that aim to promote diversity and inclusion in the region. Oualae sits on the Board of the Arab International Women’s Forum.
Oualae was born in Morocco, and has lived in Europe, the Middle East and the United States before relocating to Madrid, where she currently lives with her husband and daughter. Oualae holds a Doctorate degree in Pharmacy from Paris XI University as well a master’s degree and leadership diplomas from ESSEC and Harvard Business School.
