AIWF Board Member Dr Alanoud Alsharekh was a key speaker at the Milken MENA Summit held in Dubai on 13 February 2019, joining a distinguished panel of women leaders on the panel titled Collaborative Advocacy: A Path to Gender Parity. Dr Alsharekh was invited to participate on a key panel examining both the significant improvements that the MENA region has seen in gender parity over the years and the obstacles that still remain, including continued restrictions on women’s legal and economic equality, as well as leadership opportunities. In conflict zones, women’s human rights are especially at risk. The panel, moderated by CNBC’s Hadley Gamble, invited female trailblazers from the MENA region to discuss how we can all work together, in partnership with government and industry, to effectively generate inclusion reform and other profound social change in the context of local attitudes and values.
Dr Alsharekh is a valued AIWF Board Member, Director of Ibtkar Strategic Consultancy which is leading the Empowering Kuwaiti Women in Politics program, and Founder of Abolish 153 which aims to abolish honour killing legislation in Kuwait and the neighbouring region. The panel included HE Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, AIWF Founder Board Member and Former Minister of State for Tolerance, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Minister of Economic and Planning, United Arab Emirates; Kimberley Gire, Founder, Global Women Leaders Strategic Philanthropy; and Dima Dabbous, Regional Director MENA Office, Equality Now.
