What impact has the rapid growth of technology in the last decade made on gender boundaries - societally, in the home and in the workplace?

Arab women are increasingly turning to traditional and new media as a means for empowerment and education. Today's ever-evolving media landscape in the Arab world has allowed women in the region to promote, investigate and report on the issues that directly impact their families, their communities, their countries. Indeed, women's organisations have become especially adept at using social and digital media to build solidarity, promote advocacy, mobilise events and raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges faced by women and youth. However, the question is whether the increased presence of women in Arab media has qualitatively contributed to the major shift in women's political and social status in the region.

In exploring the roles and responsibilities of Arab women in media, it is important to address the dynamics for women journalists and to honestly explore the ways in which women and girls are portrayed and characterised, not only through Arab media but in global media culture. AIWF remains committed to showcasing Arab talent in all spheres, calling for Arab universities and media organisations in the region to promote and support the next generation of women journalists, and to do this we ask:
